==Gig Review - Clock Inn, 17/11/2007== The Clock Inn had its own special atmosphere generated by a nice room, comfortable seating, a good bar, a clientele who had obviously come out to enjoy themselves, and Breathless on top form. The band, seeming to look upon the venue as home ground, looked and sounded happy and relaxed and went through most of their hits leaving the crowd shouting for more at the end The back room boys in the engine room Pete Green on bass and Ian Wilkinson on drums produced an excellent infectious rhythm right from the start, and Ed Jones and the veteran Lew Lewis on lead guitar and keyboard respectively delivered their vocals, solos, and occasional banter with style and sparkle. The sound levels these days are for the most part kept well under control, and this allows the lyrics and excellent musicianship that the band have at their fingertips to be properly appreciated. On a personal note I would do away with the histrionics on One Night With You and Rockin All Over The World, but perhaps Im old fashioned. One new number to me was The Circle, an Ocean Colour Scene cover which could have been a little more confident and lighter at the start, but I would not fault the rest of the lively programme delivered in two one hour plus sets. The band's humour is not overdone, but when it comes it is spontaneous, relevant and well delivered. Even a collapsing piano stool was turned from potential disaster to advantage. The evening of hits from yesteryear rocked along in the manner that we have come to expect from this excellent hard working band. How lucky we are to have them, and to have The Clock Inn, a comfortable venue prepared to showcase live music. May they both rock on for ever . posted by The Leytonstone Lip Leukaemia Research Fundraiser The Clock Inn, Saturday 12th.July 2008 A night at The Clock Inn with Breathless is bound to be an enjoyable occasion, but this years Leukaemia Research Fundraiser surpassed all expectations. Friends and fans from all over the country were there to support Breathless, the good cause, and the excellent support acts that had given their time to the occasion. First up was Dave Green with an acoustic set. I have not heard Dave for at least 20 years and I was very impressed with a performance that got everything of to a good start. After a while he was joined by Breathless front man and event organiser Ed Jones, and then Guy Cleasby picked up his Fender Strat to add to the proceedings. Some excellent jamming resulting from these three very experienced performers. Finally the young singer Charlotte Harvey was introduced, displaying a clear tuneful voice and a talent that will certainly progress far if she continues to perform in this sort of company. I look forward to hearing her again. Compere Dave Hand worked hard and successfully to build up a great atmosphere in the room, and at last the fans welcomed the headline act Breathless with rapture from the start. Ed Jones, Lew Lewis, Pete Green, and Ian Wilkinson are prepared to flog themselves to death and certainly show their professionalism when it comes to handling an audience on home ground. Gordon Scott joined the lads on backing vocals on The Great Pretender, and particular highlights included Maggie May, Sweet Little Rock & Roller and Honky Tonk Women - a song, as Ed pointed out, all about women who were very good piano players. As one favourite followed another the tables and chairs were pulled back for the dancers and the evening rocked to a wonderful climax, with the Summer of Love staple All You Need Is Love. I have not heard Breathless in better form. There is talk that The Clock Inn is to undergo a facelift and possibly even a name change, but if this evening was anything to go by they should leave things just as they are. If you missed this one, make sure that you dont miss the next! The Leytonstone Lip
